Danger!

Dec 23, 2008
Brian - Broadripple

Congratulations Indianapolis you have set a new record for the amounts of murders in one year. As of the 21st there have been 121 murders. The previous record was 120 in 1998. Its hard to feel safe anymore. The economy is down, Indianapolis is being hit hard with unemployment and people are going to get more desperate. The police are currupt and are losing their authority. Greg Ballard can't do anything right, making Indianapolis leaderless. We have to ban together as communities and as a city. As the honest and hard working people of Indianapolis we deserve to feel safe and have a safe environment for our kids. We have to watch each others backs and be able to count on that someone has yours.

Another police F*%k Up

Jan 2, 2009
Jackie Zurich - Geist

To start off the new year the Indy police took another blow to their image when a 20 year mother of two died after being hit by a speeding cop car on its way to a call with no lights or sirens. The Indy police don't seem to be able to go a month without some sort of blunder. It never fails. Clean it up coppers. You're losing our respect more than ever, in a time when we need you most.

re: girl hit by speeding police car

Jan 4, 2009
Kara - Broadripple

I am sorry to say, regardless of whether or not she was walking where she shouldn't have been, the IMPD needs to start polishing their image. Apparently the girl was intoxicated and well as we all know, we don't do the smartest things when we are three sheets to the wind. It's well known in Indianapolis that there are police officers who take advantage and these silent runs come at the cost of innocent civilians. Something needs to be figured out soon because I am tired of being ran off the road by a police car with no lights and sirens because they don't want to scare a criminal. Does my safety not matter anymore? To add to it- hopefully they take away their cars to use as personal vehicles. There is absolutely no reason for the taxpayers to fund their Sunday drives (or races I should say).

One Man's Trash is Another Man's Trash

Jan 10, 2009
Sandy - Broadripple

The garbage men in broadripple are finally on time, however, now on trash day when I look down the street, it's littered with trash from the entire block. Maybe the garbage men hate waking up early, maybe they hate smelling like fish and diapers all day, or maybe they drive a Ford taurus... but it's no reason to treat your job and our environment like the garbage you see every day.

More face for your buck

David - New Castle

After mayor Ballard's $30,000 trip (which we paid for) what has come of it? This well-publicized trip promised some sort of economic initiative. What was it? What happened for all that money? We've heard nothing about it since he came back, even though he's been on the news SEVERAL times since coming back. Today, he was on channel 13 encouraging us to drop off our old electronics at Broadripple Park... What about the $30,000 trip to Asia?!!

Haley - Home

Thank you road commission for getting the highways clear and thank you for forgetting my road so I could get stuck in a intersection and not get out. Thank you for making me late to work and yell at an old lady to mind her business.

ISORE

Jan 18, 2009
Dave - Downtown

How long do we have to look at the burnt wreckage of the IHOP on sixteenth and Meridian. Why hasn't it been torn down? Even a gravel lot would look better. This is one of the main arteries of the city and the rest of the scenery and buildings reflect the positive image that's important for visitors' experience, especially as we try to uphold our reputation as a world class city. Hopefully by the 2012 Super Bowl, this is one of the areas that gets some much needed attention.

So I got a ticket today on Prospect for not wearing my seatbelt. DAMMIT! How the hell could he possibly have seen that?! especially considering how fast I was speeding past him over the limit! Oh well, at least it's only a $25 ticket, but still! catch a murderer or something!

trash on trash on trash on trash

Jan 23, 2009
S.P. - broadripple

So the braodripple trash epidemic continues. Last friday the garbage men didn't pick up the trash because it was like -20 degrees. Now a week, 6 more bags, and 30+ degrees later the trash is still on the curb. I can understand not working when it's dangerously cold, but what about this week? The entire broadripple area has two weeks of garbage in front of their homes. Maybe I'll just tell the government it's too cold to pay taxes this year.

Where the hell are the snowplows?

Jan 27, 2009
T.B. - Downtown

So I just drove from downtown to Broadripple and back again and... where the hell are all the snow plows that I read about right before leaving the house?! They knew this shit was coming, everybody did, they've been warning us about it for days. So why weren't the streets being taken care of AT ALL?! Here are a few of the streets on my route today: Delaware, 38th, College, Keystone, 70, Mass Ave, etc... Am I wrong, or are these some of the major streets in the city? I saw 4 plows TOTAL (on this 2 and a half hour trip). 3 had their plow UP and one was parked. WTF?!! I have to say, people were driving pretty reasonably for the conditions, so that's good, but where the hell is the cavalry of snow plows that I heard the city was gonna deploy?! Maybe we should throw another "Luau," Mayor Ballard, and keep on pretending winter just doesn't exist.

Snowplows?

Feb 1, 2009
jellybean - indianapolis

Do we NOT have snowplows in this State? I was watching the news and every picture showed a snowplow, was that from last year because I have yet to see one. I see school-busses crashing everywhere, so are we waiting until some kids die before we break out the plow trucks? Damn greedy Hoosiers!

NUVO pwns DPW... or not?

Feb 5, 2009
Rusty - Fountain Square

So, I didn't exactly understand the three-part "Department of Public Jerks" write-up in NUVO this week in their "Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down" section. The second two didn't seem to have anything to do with DPW at all. Water... maybe, but still, that's on Indianapolis Water, not DPW. And what exactly did the republicans' standpoint on transporting prisoners to the Terre Haute facility have to do with our local DPW? Whatever... I do have to agree with the first "thumbs down" though - quoting the head of DPW, "Get some shovels and snowplows. There's a lot of people who just need to do it themselves." Hmm. Ok... Oh, btw, I've decided to put my tax dollars toward community theatre this year instead of government. Also, I won't be plowing my own street. Just saying.

Colt Arrested, Cop Proves Something

Feb 9, 2009
Jon - eastside

Darrell Reid was arrested for disorderly conduct and trespassing this weekend for "running his mouth" to an off-duty cop at Oxygen on the northside. Okay, trying to get into a club that they're trying to get people out of isn't a great idea. And pulling out the "I don't have to leave, because I'm a football player with the Colts," is just bad form... but, arresting him, really? What the hell is the deal with IMPD throwing their weight around like this is a middle school lockerroom? It's like they're saying, "I don't care who you are, I'll arrest you for some bullshit just to prove I'm more important." Should Reid have been less of a moron? Sure. Should he have been representing the team and the city more professionally? Of course. Should he have been arrested for some stupid shit? Hell no. Try arresting people that are robbing children at bustops.

Handicapped parking is for cops?

Feb 14, 2009
Dan - West Indy

Why is it an increasing problem to stop at a gas station or almost anywhere in Indy that has a parking spot for 'handicapped people' and find that a local cop, a delivery man, or even a services truck parked in the handicapped spots, and they are definitely not handicapped???

Recently, when I complained to a cop at a gas station (on Thursday) in the center of Indy as to why he was taking the only spot for 'us handicapped' he told me to keep my d@#@! mouth shut, or he would find some reason to arrest me and place me in jail for a few days!!!!

Seems we are definitely turning into the 'new Russia' now that we have forgotten to be polite to each other, compassionate to those less fortunate than us. And all 'us disabled' and 'handicapped' are becoming disposable to the world just because we have some 'differences' in our health or bodies that we cannot change - nature took that course for us!!

As 'the Pope' stated recently; Forget to be kind, compassionate, and caring for your fellow man/woman and we shall truely destroy the world we know, love, and live in quickly!!!

Panhandling Schedules?

April 11, 2009
DillyBar - Castleton

The Allisonville and 465 intersection in Castleton is a panhandlers mecca. Every day homeless people from across the city travel there to fill their pockets with change. Each 465 entrance and exit is posted with people. Different people everyday. Is there a schedule that rotates? Is it first come first serve? Is it millitary veterans on Mondays and Wednesday and single mothers on Tuesday and thursday with a random of the week on Friday?

If these people are so driven to these spots every day then why cant they get a job? They will show up early, work more than 8 hours, and be friendly and polite to strangers.

I am surprised Mayor Ballard hasn't placed a collection box there.

Come on, a CVS?

April 17, 2009
anti raver - downtown indy

About the burned IHOP building on meridian and the construction of a CVS. The rave says GREAT new stuff. Well poop on you. It's a CVS... right across from a Walgreens. Prime real estate like that on Indy's main street should go to a more "Indy" bizz than some corprate CVS. When visitors drive on in they are greeted with commercial crap that you can get anywhere instead of a real flavor of Indy. I'll chalk that decision up to our lovely mayor.

Marion County Treasurer is robbing the poor

Oct 29, 2009
Felicia - Indianapolis

...and giving to the Landlord, Investor, and Developers

All is quiet on the tax front.

I stumbled across this trying to find the order of hierarchy as to who the Marion county treasurer answers to. I underestimated them when I said the do-do was gonna hit the fan, after reading my mother's recent bill. All of us who got hit hard think everyone is in the same boat. WRONG.

It appears the reason the tax schedule has been so off and disorganized is because the Marion County assessor has systematically been working on a covert strategy to guarantee the displacement of "certain folks" in selected areas, and that takes time.

The site's Property Tax Viewer used together with Google (by copy/pasting a selected address into Google's search bar) allows interested developers and investors to shop without leaving the comfort of their home or office; allowing them to plan their next move with ease and efficiency; Ready to snap up property for the price of unpaid taxes.

All I have to say is we won the battle getting a black president but the powers that be have pulled knives from the briefcases to stab us in the back. They've been hiding in the shadows plotting. This little obscure website just proves it. They're counting on their chosen targets to lack resources, such as the one I'm using here to expose the site I found. They believed that placating the majority would allow them to pass the cost on to the minority. Indiana is not about to absorb the decreases it promised.

I posted a letter to Representative Andre Carson on his site. Here is what I wrote:

Dear Representative Carson,

I'm writing on behalf of my mother -----. She just received her property tax notice. It has gone from a 2008 assessed value of $65,000 to an assessed value of $108,300. How can this be? She was just denied a reverse mortgage.

She submitted an application based on the 2008 assessed value. The lender stated that based on the appraisal of the property, (less than $30,000) and the surrounding properties it would not be possible to grant because of FHA required repairs needed to this property.

In a time when homes have lost their value, and owners are struggling with upside down mortgages, how did this property which is visually clear from the curb in need of repair merit a $43,300 increase? My mother is 80 years old with a heart condition. She has taken to her bed worried that she's about lose her home. This assessment is just wrong. Please help, not only my mother, but others in this area who I'm sure are just as afraid.

The Indy.gov site is a clarion call if we (even the middle to upper middle class black folks) are going to come out of this alive. It's not just the poor areas. Even in the "better areas" the treasurer's office has been a tornado skipping one or more houses and landing on another seemingly at random. Just look at the Tarkington condominiums compared to the Towers across the street.

Study this map well. Click the hand icon to move the page, click the (i)icon then click on the boxes representing the property to pull up information on the owner and the current assessment back to 2007.

Tea Baggers

Apr 16, 2010
Judi romaine - bloomington, in

I think they are very funny - it's like my kitty ranting on about things - if he could talk - or my gerbil.  Lots of anger which they have the right to vent - I just think the understanding of the world is lacking (and IQ's run about the same as my gerbil).
