I spend a decent amount of time working out. I like to run or bike on the Monon around the Broad Ripple area and I also workout at the local YMCA. No workout is complete without tunes… I have a variety of music I like to listen to. But lately I've become very puzzled. What are the old people listening to? I see lots of older people with Ipods or MP3 players and I also ponder "what are they listening to." My 50 year old mother doesn't know how to open or send a text message let alone download music onto a computer and then upload it onto an Ipod. This cool hip thing that so many people are strutting around town with has now caught up with the old folk. I'm amazed. Did they do it themselves or ask their 18 year old grandson Johnny to help when he stopped by one afternoon? And if they did, was Johnny as puzzled as I am? How did they get it, and what are they listening to?
Recently I have been forced to listen to the local radio. I'm not a fan of pop music so in result I turn to the classics. I discovered that if it wasn't for Pink Floyd 94.7 and 104.5 would be SOL. They constantly play their music, and its not a variety of Pink Floyd its the same songs. I have heard "another brick in the wall" on 94.7 then changed it to 104.5 and it was playing there. The classic rock genre is huge and contains good music. Instead of giving the listeners the same old shit, expand their minds by giving them new classic rock. You owe it to us.
Um, Colby, classics are Beethoven, Brahms, Mozart, Bach, Schubert, etc. If only you would try listening to them you would not have to worry about a limited repertoire. You would love broccoli, give up cigarettes, and send thank you cards.
Celebrated the New Year at Peppers in Broadripple. Live music... horrible. Crowd... vulgar. Countdown... lame. The only positives... Bartenders and $100 tab that was miraculously dropped to $24.68. Almost made it worth while.
I've never been one to care what other people think, especially about the music I listen to. People that tell me to turn my shitty punk noise down can get down with my man parts. Why is the live music schedule in Indianapolis cluttered with pop-country and alt rock that, quite frankly, all sounds the same to me? Where is the passion? Where is the heart in the music today? I'm sure that Nickleback fans love the radio and all of those 30-something women get the chills when Buck Cherry chugs through a meaningless song with no emotion or metaphor in sight. Singing about being a rock star is like a 5 star chef at McDonald's telling the 16 year old kid behind the counter that chicken nuggets suck. I'd like to bet that the trailer parks are empty when Kenny Chesney has sold out some huge venue. I'm more than okay with other types of music than Punk Rock. I love a good country or indie band that does their own songs. They're probably heartfelt and real. I understand that I do not share the majority of opinion in the music listening population but would it kill one good punk band to come through our great city? Local bands are good, and I love what The Melody Inn is doing, but there are only so many local bands. Can those of us who would like to see a good show now and again, do what we can to get the bands we like booked near by?
OK... So am I the only one who after 20 years of being forcefed John Mellencamp... wants to jab an inkpen in my eardrums everytime I hear another Mellencamp song on the radio?
Me and my girlfriend were driving tonight and this is the promo I heard come on 100.9: "As we continue our boycott against Chris Brown's music, support our 'No Excuse for Abuse' campaign." And then they started playing a pre-recorded tape of someone telling their "tale" of domestic abuse. My gf quickly changed the station before we had to listen any further. Thank god.
First off, this rant has nothing to do with Chris Brown's actions, no matter how you take it. So you can piss off too, everyone who thinks we're defending him here. This has every thing to do with media over-stepping their bounds and pushing morality on the general public.
Radio Now is a commercial business. You ARE NOT a church. Furthermore, you're not even a commercial program disguised as a morality program (see "Delilah" or "Nancy Grace"). You're a pop music station for fuck's sake! I tune to your station (if ever) for terrible pop garbage escapism..... not a fucking sermon!
If I want morality tales and judgment by appointed leaders, I'll go to church. If I want judgment by some dickhead journalism/broadcast flunkie, I'll read US Weekly. The fact is, I don't... want to or do either. And now there's another thing I won't do - listen to your radio station.
You're just getting yourself off by exploiting this tabloid hay-day of an incident. Masturbate in private, 100.9, not on the public airwaves.
